Brand Project

This was a student project which had to be made as style for a fake brand. This fake brand had to be based around an historical figure, which had to be either a scientist, inventor, or artist. It was tricky trying to figure out who the historical figure of this piece should be. After a bit of searching, artist Charley Harper was chosen. Charley Harper made art that was centered around nature and the beauty of nature which would make a great modern day café especially with the design of this project.

Another logo variation

The logo and brand had to be something which would catch the attention of those walking by the café. One design, which can be seen to the right, had too much going on with the logo. This design could not be simplified to where someone could just look at the silhouette of the logo and figure out what the place they’re walking into or seeing advertisements for. In this design, there were also too many assets and illustrations that went along with it. Some illustrations were kept for the brand but went through a few redesigns. The logo was then simplified to have a nice sans serif font, that being Oswald with Roboto Condensed, with an illustration of a bird that is in reference to a piece Charley created in which had a red cardinal in it.

Located to the right is the first version of the welcome card with the first logo.

These were the assets that were used for creating the overall style.

The illustrations that went along with the brand were loosely based on some other pieces Charley created. The color palette was chosen mainly because of the logo. The main logo is a nice olive green and the orange went well with it. Once things were in order, everything just fell into place as the design was created.
